Musical O'Neill Sisters Receive Top Honors

The O’Neill Sisters have received top honors for their debut original album“No place like home” and are bringing the award for best country artists at the "Artist in Music" awards held in Los Angeles over the Grammy weekend, home to Kerry.

The awards which are in their first year were created by former Grammy board members who saw the need for an awards show that gave much needed recognition to independent artists and their music in an Industry largely dominated by major label acts. The obvious need for such an award show was reflected in the outstanding quality of the nominated acts and in the thousands of attendees to the show held at the infamous Key Club on the sunset strip on Friday night.

Similar to most music award shows, the top five nominated acts in each music category were decided upon by the amount of votes each act received from the public. The eventual winners were decided upon by a board of judges who came from different established backgrounds in the music industry.

"When we first heard about our nomination, we were over the moon" says Fiona, the eldest of the three sisters. "We really didn't expect to win as we were up against some amazing country acts straight out of Nashville. So for us to win the best country award coming from county Kerry is overwhelming. We are so honored and grateful for this award and of course we couldn’t have done it without all the help from everyone in Kerry who supported us and voted for us in the early stages."

The album, recorded independently over thirteen days inSonas Recording studios in Killarney was just released this past November here at home and is now set for release in the U.S in March.

"This has been an amazing start to the release of our album and we are just thrilled with the positive response . It makes all the time and work we’ve put into our music worthit." adds Fiona. "We have some dates in the U.S and here at home lined up in the next few months so we're just going with the flow and seeing where the music takes us."

And if their recent win is anything to go by one can safely say music will be taking "The O’Neill Sisters" to places far beyond their Kerry roots.
