Senator John Kerry Letter to Hilary Clinton

E-mail Print PDF

Below is the letter Senator John Kerry sent to Secretary Clinton concerning the Boston College subpoena situation.  In a conference call with leaders of Irish-American organizations, Senator Kerry also said he would speak personally with Secretary Clinton and Attorney General Eric Holder.  He also said he would speak personally with the British Foreign Secretary and, as the Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, he did not rule out the possibility of a hearing concerning the source of the subpoena and the breakdown in the safeguards put in place with the extradition and mutual legal aid treaties.

Participating in the tele-conference with Senator Kerry were:
Attorney Thomas Burke, President, Irish American Unity Conference
Attorney James Cullen, Brehon Law Society
Ned McGinley, Past President, Ancient Order of Hibernians
Richard Wall, Massachusetts President, Ancient Order of Hibernians
Michael Cummings, Brehon Law Society
Carri Twomey, U.S. citizen and wife of researcher Anthony McIntyre

In addition to stating release of the oral history interviews could be disruptive to the Ireland peace process, Senator Kerry also acknowledged release could put people at risk.  Those people would include Carrie, her husband and her two children.  Carrie is currently in the U.S. and is speaking with media outlets concerning her situation.  If you would like to arrange a telephone interview with Carrie, please call me at (617) 973-6448 to make arrangements.

Your on-going interest in this matter is appreciated.
