Hailing from County Dublin, Ireland, award-winning actor Kevin Ryan (www.kevinjryan.com) joins the highly anticipated BBC TV drama series ‘Copper’ created by Oscar winning Director Barry Levinson (‘Bugsy’, ‘Rain Man’, ‘Wag The Dog’), Tom Fontana (‘Oz’, ‘Homicide: Life on the Streets’, ‘St. Elsewhere’) and Will Rokos (‘Monster’s Ball’, ‘Southland’). The Irish actor, who now resides in Los Angeles, is set to start filming his lead series regular role on January 23rd in Toronto, Canada.
Ryan, who plays Detective Francis Maguire alongside Tom Weston-Jones (‘MI-5’, aka ‘Spooks’) is Irelands latest emerging star, his role in the top award winning RTE One TV drama ‘Raw’ starts airing this Sunday and his lead role in Philippe Caland’s (‘Ripple Effect’, ‘Boxing Helena’) ‘Tripping Tommy’ is scheduled for release later this year.
“I’m thrilled to be playing an Irish detective in my own Dublin accent.” Says Ryan, who has trained hard over the years with his dialect coach to perfect his American accent. “I can’t wait to get in to my full blown 19th century copper character.”
‘Copper’ is an immigrant drama about an Irish cop working in 19th century New York City. It will feature well-crafted, close-ended police investigation mysteries with twists, turns and surprises. Set in the 1860s, plot lines relating to the Civil War permeate the series while it also explores themes of power, politics and race in a country and community wrestling with rapid social change. Slated to premiere on BBC America in the summer of 2012 and in Canada on Shaw Media’s Showcase in fall 2012, it will link audiences on both sides of the Atlantic.
